TAP is proud to present a solo exhibition by architect and artist Gabriel Peña Tijerina. This show marks TAP’s 2019 season end in Montreal. The statement “less is more” was coined by celebrated modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, he is known for establishing the use of glass, steel and concrete as a staple of Modern architecture. Mies van der Rohe’s creations at the time (20s and 30s) were more than a place to inhabit but rather became a symbol of rejection of materialism and a celebration of extreme minimalism. In this exhibition, through a series of pieces utilizing glass and reflective surfaces as the central materials, Gabriel shares his research and critique on how filtered through the north american culture, the famous phrase “less is more” takes an important emphasis on the “more”.
