About
Julien Parant-Marquis’ work presents intricate sceneries where a narrative structure is often hard to grasp. The painted spaces represent visualizations that are defined by Julien as visual spasms that are unique and spontaneous. Parant-Marquis’ brushwork is attenuated in a way that hides the form of application or even the nature of his subject. The cumulative effect of researching symbols with a lack of sense in meaningless shapes has deepened his visual language. Once these shapes are sketched on whichever newfound piece of paper, they take on a materialized form that can serve a future painting. Parant-Marquis’ practice is the incarnation of his obsession with the visceral experience of painting.
